Anders has been on my list of authors to read for a while, but her widely praised nooks tend to be big chunky novels, and my test in books runs a little more slim. The Trans Rights Readathon seemed like the time to get around to her writing, and when I spied the tininess of this book at the library, I immediately picked it up.

This book probably contained the least amount of explicit gender queerness out of any of the books I read for the readathon, but there were some queer characters. All the stories had fantasy or sci-fi elements, some more subtle than others. My favorite at the time was "Clover," a story told with shifting POVs that sometimes included two cats, one of whom was usually a woman. It was odd and clever and doesn't go anywhere you think it will and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

But in the days and weeks after finishing this, the story that kept coming up in my brain and conversation was the title story, "Six Months, Three Days," about foresight and predestination, and it left lots of juicy ideas to think about. ( )

Honestly, I think what made this book stand out was that it was a cute little hardcover book - of all the superficial reasons to want to buy something! Certainly didn't regret buying it, though - the six contained stories are very high calibre, and written in a very easy, welcoming, lightly comic style. Someone else on here mentioned Black Mirror, which is appropriate because I've also been watching those myself. But it's a bit more "out there", I guess. Not quite the same thing.

I'll try and watch out for more of Anders' books... ( )

Wow this is great! Short story collection, really showing Anders at her best—absurdist, creative, funny, heartfelt, and playing around with big ideas. ( )

Good stories. Most of them never really a definitive ending, but they were all interesting. ( )
