He's faced down God Himself, and lived (and died, and lived again) to tell the tale. Now Lucifer Morningstar, the most irresistible antihero in all of Creation, is free to turn the final page on his past and begin a brand-new chapter in his legendarily eventful life. But before he can start booking retirement cruises, there's still one small matter that requires his attention: an all-powerful entity has usurped his deceased Father's place in Heaven and is preparing to extinguish every last vestige of free will throughout the universe. The Lightbringer has always been the contrary type, and he's not about to change his ways for anyone-or anything-just because they occupy the Throne of Light. And while the former Lord of Hell now rules only within the boundaries of his nightclub, Ex Lux, he still has powerful allies and devoted enemies-all of whom are ripe for manipulation. Together, this motley militia is poised to take their fight from the heights of the Silver City to the depths of the Inferno. Against them stand multiple armies of angels, demons, and every dreaded thing imaginable that lies between them. Can Lucifer overcome their onslaught and keep his club, his city, and his indomitable independence intact? Or, after countless millennia, has the Devil's tab finally come due? Find out in LUCIFER VOL. 3: BLOOD IN THE STREETS-the shocking conclusion to the newest saga of the Fallen One from the acclaimed creative team of Richard Kadrey, Lee Garbett, Antonio Fabela, Holly Black, Marco Rudy and Ben Templesmith!… (mehr)

Woohoo, first graphic novel of 2019 complete! But did they seriously wrap up what was meant to be a much longer storyline in a mere 7 issues?!? I guess they did have a major change in writing staff, but I'm surprised that they chose to kill God and tie up the rest of the story's vague plots with very little denouement. It does make for a stronger story, I guess, and not every graphic novel series needs to be 10 volumes, but I was just getting into the new Lucifer and the new political schemes in Heaven! Then again, we didn't really need this at all in comparison to the previous series authored by Mike Carey, but it was still another fun romp through hell (and hell on earth) and gave us a little more to think about in the strange and interesting life in Lucifer Morningstar. Have to agree with earlier reviewer that this final volume is a bit chaotic and hard to follow. Somehow the idea that the mere procimity to filthy Lucifer is a mortal danger to the new Presence is logically incoherent. I expected better of the series. ( )

Holly Black leaving this book was a huge loss for its conclusion, which is a bit of a sensationalist mess here. All major plot points are tied off (thankfully), but little is explained. A new major character is pointlessly introduced (though she's fun enough -- basically a female John Constantine with a greedier personality), contributing next to nothing to the plot while eating up most of the page count. Additionally, numerous older characters are brought back -- mostly, again, without really contributing anything to the story -- and I was going along with all of it until the last two pages, which are mere nonsense. Lucifer's suddenly being lovey-dovey with Mazekeen (which chapens their relationhip into a mundane, regular one rather than the very special only individual he kinda-sorta-almost cares about as established previously) and the assorted random characters who somehow (contrary to everything previously established) can now 'become God' (the Basanos children, sure -- but there rest of them, that's gibberish) -- urgh. Honestly, the final two pages of this story probably cost this volume half a star, and nearly pushed it down to 2.5. But at least we get some closure. It'll be highly interesting to see if any of this is kept in continuity when the Sandman Universe launch brings back "Lucifer" in autumn of 2018. ( )
