I received this book as a LibraryThing free book with a request for a review. I appreciated the passion the author brought to his subject, the sudden 2013 invasion of a small community in Iraq by armed "devils" and a violent uprising by the captive townspeople to reclaim their home. The Boy of the Mosque is a classic morality play: the townspeople (who all dress in white) are entirely virtuous, and the nameless "devils" (who all dress in black) are relentlessly evil. Good must, and does, vanquish evil; end of story. The book would have been stronger with character development and a sense of setbacks or suspense along the way. But to separate my thoughts on the way I received this book, Boy of the Mosque is very heart wrenching, thought provoking, and so perfect for the current political climate. It is a short read, so give it a look. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Member Giveaways geschrieben. I enjoyed the different setting for this brief story about planning and taking action against invaders. The planning and preparation parts of the story were good; the action was was fine too. I received this as a LibraryThing Member GiveAway. Thank you. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
In the Year ?1258, Baghdad?, the capital of the great Abbasid Caliphate, fell to the Moguls. Within hours, the city of enlightenment was swallowed up by darkness, another society becoming a victim of hatred and greed. The mighty Tigris flowed with blue and red, the blood of its people and the ink from the age-old scrolls of knowledge, all heartlessly washed away. In spite of the turmoil and chaos, twelve families managed to flee. Far away they wandered, leaving behind their beautiful homeland that had been reduced to death and rubble. Together, that remnant from Baghdad established a new community, one that lived in peace and harmony for centuries. Centuries later, in 2017, mercenaries and militias took over that charming village, threatening to destroy the happy existence the people had worked so hard to rebuild. What will be the fate of those innocent people and their heritage? That hangs in the balance as all must rely on one man, The Boy of the Mosque. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
