Before Grace Henderson began working as a tailor in her father's bespoke suit shop in Wiliamsburg, Brooklyn, she established a hard and fast rule about not dating clients. The edict is an easy one for her to follow, considering the overwhelming majority of the shop's clients are men. But when Dakota Lane contacts her to commission a suit to wear to her sister's wedding, Grace finds herself tempted to throw all the rules out the window. Dakota Lane works as a bicycle messenger by day and moonlights as a male model. Her high-profile career, gender-bending looks, and hard-partying ways garner her plenty of romantic attention, but she would rather play the field than settle down. When she meets sexy tailor Grace Henderson, however, she suddenly finds herself in the market for much more than a custom suit.… (mehr)

Every few months, I check to see what digital titles are available through the public library. More often than not, nothing catches my eye. But on my last perusal, seeing an African American woman on the cover of a f/f romance novel stopped me in my tracks. I'm so, SO tired of books in the f/f world having covers depicting thin, young, white women that I tend to keep on rolling whenever I see one. Not that I spend most of my reading time on romance anymore but still...

I've seen Yolanda Wallace's name for years but never felt a strong urge to pick up any of her books, except for Rum Spring which looked really interesting. I'm so glad my library had Tailor-Made because it easily nabs a spot on my favorites list and my even more exclusive "Funk Reading List." Hell, I want to reread it again right now. As I watched the percentage done ramp up, I wished there was much more to the book. But, honestly, I would have been happy if it would have ended before the epilogue. I loved how the final chapter wrapped up. It was just damn perfect for me.

If you've been waiting for a reason to give this author a shot, grab Tailor-Made and settle in for a fantastic romance.

Oh! I forgot to mention that I found just the right amount of angst and great chemistry between Grace and Dakota. And I loved the names of all the women in Grace's family. Oh - and Lillie! So much good stuff in this book.

Ok, I'm done. I've returned the library's copy and am off to buy my own. ( )

This was interesting. I've never even been in the same room as a tailor, so even that stuff was cool little tidbits to me. But, of course, that wasn't the point of the story.

It was Dakota and Grace's story. Grace is the tailor in the story. She works for her father's company which brings some of the drama into the novel. Dakota is a model who models men's clothing and underwear. They meet when Dakota comes in to buy a suit for her sister's wedding. From the beginning there are sparks, but also barriers like the fact that Grace wants permanence and Dakota has been a player. I do wish that like I've read in other books there was more of a change during the book when it came to Dakota's player status. We were sorta told instead of shown that.

Once they meet it's a fairly typical lesbian romance. With a little bit of interesting conversation on gender and such. But, I did feel like the ending was a little bit rushed and abrupt.

Overall it was a fun novel and a fast (and good) read.

I was given this ARC by Netgalley on behalf of Bold Strokes Books. ( )
