Fiction. Mystery. Romance. Humor (Fiction.) HTML:A stoner, an Instagram model, a Czech oligarch, and a missing unicorn. Nick Fox and Kate O'Hare have their work cut out for them in their weirdest, wildest adventure yet in this New York Times bestseller by Janet and Peter Evanovich.
/> Straight arrow FBI Agent Kate O'Hare always plays by the rules.  Charming Con Man Nicholas Fox makes them up as he goes along.  She thinks he's nothing but a scoundrel.  He thinks she just needs to lighten up.  They're working together to tackle the out-of-bounds cases ordinary FBI agents can't touch.  And, their relationship?  Well, there hasn't been so much explosive chemistry since Nitro was introduced to Glycerin.
Next on the docket: The mysterious disappearance of the Silicon Valley billionaire, known as the Big Kahuna.  Kate's been assigned to find him but no one seems particularly keen on helping.  His twenty-six year old adult actress wife-turned Instagram model wife and his shady Czech business partner are more interested in gaining control of his company.  For that they need a dead body not a living Kahuna.
The only lead they have is the Kahuna's drop-out son, who's living the dream in Hawaii - if your dream is starting your day with the perfect wave and ending it with a big bowl of weed.  To get close to the Kahuna's son, Kate and Nick go undercover as a married couple in the big wave, bohemian, surfer community of Paia, Maui.  Living a laid back, hippy-dippy lifestyle isn't exactly in Kate's wheelhouse, but the only thing more horrifying is setting up house with Nick Fox, even if he does look pretty gnarly on a longboard.  If they don't catch a break soon, waves aren't the only thing she's going to be shredding (or bedding).… (mehr)

I love how often and the locations that Fox & O'Hare travel to solve the crimes they are called in on. I also love how awesome Jake is; as a secondary character, he comes in and saves the day often. ( )

While the previous books in the series do a good job of establishing a partnership between Kate and Nick, this book does not. Decisions and action shift so Nick is primary, with Kate (and Jake) being more dependent. Overall, it reads more like Nick fan fiction, or a "Gary Sue" male fantasy novel. The writing itself is also less engaging, with redundant phrasing.

I didn't like the new author, the writing, or this book.

Also, the relationship between Kate and Nick "backs up" before they progressed to having a sexual relationship as in The Pursuit. ( )

Pretty dreadful, especially for anyone who has enjoyed the first five books in this series. As further proof when does Amazon ever have a lower reader rating than Goodreads? A Silicon Valley unicorn is missing, and Nick Fox and Kate O'Hare are trying to find him, enlisting the help of a stoner, an Instagram supermodel, Jake, and an FBI desk jockey, who would never be allowed out in the field. The zippy repartee is gone as is the magic between Kate and Nick although a trip to Hawaii is always a treat. Peter Evanovich cannot carry Lee Goldberg's jock strap as a writer. Shame on the publisher and on Janet. ( )

I am not real sure where to begin with this one. I feel like a lot of the other reviews pretty much nailed my thoughts although I don’t like to go strictly off of other’s reviews if I am really into a series. Unfortunately, I should have listened I guess.
I did not realize at first that Lee Goldberg was not a co-author. I believe that made a big difference here. I do enjoy Evanovich’s crazy characters, but not so much in this series. The characters in this series are more grounded and sensible than characters in her other books. That was not seen here. I know it’s been a while since her last release for the series, but I really felt like I was missing something because I thought that there was a pretty big cliffhanger with book number five. Turns out there was, but somehow the ball was dropped between books number five and six. I don’t even feel I know Kate and Nick anymore.
Even more odd is that I felt at times that I was reading a bad Private novel written by James Patterson. Sadly, probably the worst Janet Evanovich book I’ve read. ( )
