The author is a classicist historian and one of the first I have found who styles himself a "psycho-historian" writing "psycho-history" drawn from a stupendous wealth of material filling over twenty thousand pages just from the Master of the Rolls [vii].
In 1500, Henry came to kingship, a hard trade, when not yet eleven years old. For the next 38 years he dominated England with his whims, including an obsession for a male heir which apparently justified his sequential marriage and disposal of six different women. Henry's divorce from his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, led to his split with the Catholic Church and set the stage for the English Reformation and for religious battles which lasted for centuries.
The author titles his chapters by the names of these remarkable women whose martyrdom has been deja viewed down to the present day.
Henry VIII was the father of Elizabeth I, who became one of England's most powerful and longest-reigning monarchs.
