I've been following the author's website, Readaloud Revival, for a long time. I use her monthly picture book lists to check out books from the library for my children. I listen to her podcasts. So most of the content of the book are things I already read or heard from her elsewhere, and already agree with and implement in my home. The author avidly promotes parents reading aloud to their children at home, regardless of the children's age. She gives many reasons why reading aloud is good for your family dynamics and your children's well-being, and talks about one reason in each chapter. Then she gives some pointers about how to create a bookclub-like atmosphere for your family read-aloud time. Then she gives four booklists for four different age groups -- the booklists are my favorite part! Wonderful lists. ( )

I adore this compendium. I never cease to be in awe of when the right book finds me at the right moment. ( )

I regularly listen to Sarah's podcast, "The Read-Aloud Revival". As an avid reader, I love introducing my kids to books in the hopes that they will love reading as well. This offering is a wonderful resource to encourage parents in building a bookish culture in their own homes. The final part of the book includes her carefully curated collection of read-alouds for various age ranges. If you need some inspiration or fresh vision to keep reading to your kids, this book (and podcast) can help! ( )

This is such an important book for parents! The benefits of reading aloud to your children (at all ages) are countless. The author gives you tips and tricks to make it part of your life. She also provides reading lists for each age group, activities for each age group to do while you read to them, and three questions for you to ask while picking out books for your kids. Such a great resource and one I will return to in the future.

“Stories reach us where nothing else can and quicken the heartbeat of the hero within us.”

“When we finish the final chapter of a book that has touched us on a deep level and we slip back into our own shoes, we are never quite the same. We’re changed.”

“By reading a copious amount of easy books, she became better at the skill of reading. Light books count. Hard books count. Current best sellers counter. Classics count. They all have their place in the tapestry a child’s reading life.” ( )
