There is no chance that I could write a review good enough for this book. We learn so much more about Kingsley in this story, if you think you couldn’t love him anymore than you already do, you’re wrong. ( )

I didn't originally realise that this was part of a larger series: no matter this was still an enjoyable endeavour surprisingly more humorous in its execution than erotic which surprised me as I was expecting the opposite.
My rating reflects the fact that I haven't read the rest of the series so was somewhat uninvested here.
If you are a regular consumer of this series I imagine the opposite would apply.
Though technically this can be read as a standalone: all the components are there: in my opinion, this would be better served read as part as the series especially since you will already then be invested in the outcome here.
This is a partial backstory of 24-year-old Lieutenant Kingsley and his adventures concerning The aforenamed Chateau.
It's fun flirty and sexy: A well-written foray into a world of taboo practices and free expression.
I enjoyed this very much but it didn't really set me on fire probably because as I mentioned earlier I read this as a solo offering.
Still, it was enjoyable and well written so for that reason this gets a thumbs up from me.

OMG, this series!

I'm woefully behind in it (Audible to the rescue!) but The Chateau worked just fine as a standalone, so that was perfectly okay. It's billed as an erotic thriller, which gives it a slightly different flavor than the other series books that I've read thus far. Taking place in 1989, it tells the story of a heretofore unknown part of Kingsley's (here Lieutenant Kingsley Boissonneault, in later years he'll be known as Kingsley Edge) life, a rather..ahem...unusual mission he took part in as a member of a secret group within the French Foreign Legion.

I loved seeing this small part of Kingsley's past, and this bit in Ms. Reisz's Q&A at the end:

Q: Inside the cult's chateau, women reign and men are their willing slaves. How did the idea for such a community come about?

A: Wishful thinking?

both made me LOL and sigh wistfully at the same time. Well played, Ms. Reisz.

The blurb for the next standalone series novel (Picture Perfect Cowboy) has me counting the days until its release; until then I've got some catching up to do!

(Slight spoiler, so avert your eyes if you don't want to see it: Ha! I knew who Mr. Madame was going to end up being! But OMG, I did not suspect the true history of that hidden room...did I mention, this series...?)

I've heard about Reisz's books for years and finally decided to give her a try with this Original Sinners stand-alone. While I'll admit she's a good writer, the story just wasn't for me. I have a feeling her fans will love it though. ( )
