( ) Whiskey When We're Dry by John Larison is a niche kind of book that was very difficult to read for me. The style is back in the good 'ol days of washing your clothes in the crook when when bandits roamed the street. The first quarter of the book had me interested and glued to it, wondering where it might go but the plot and story flopped for me. I was bored out of my mind and the style of the conversations, talking more country bumpkin but without the cuteness just didn't sit well with me. I felt myself drifting off and wanting to DNF the book, but I also wanted to give it a good chance. John Larison's style and commitment to it was spectacular, but it just didn't work with me. I think this book will be loved by fans of the genre! It's interesting and cool to see how he was able to continue this style and craft a story out of it. Overall, this book is wonderfully written but not in a style I could stick to. It was just too difficult to jump into. One out of five stars. I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

In the spring of 1885, seventeen-year-old Jessilyn Harney finds herself orphaned and alone on her family's homestead. Desperate to fend off starvation and predatory neighbors, she cuts off her hair, binds her chest, saddles her beloved mare, and sets off across the mountains to find her outlaw brother Noah and bring him home. A talented sharpshooter herself, Jess's quest lands her in the employ of the territory's violent, capricious Governor, whose militia is also hunting Noah--dead or alive. Wrestling with her brother's outlaw identity, and haunted by questions about her own, Jess must outmaneuver those who underestimate her, ultimately rising to become a hero in her own right.
