( ) I absolutely loved this book. I think this is wonderful book to read at the beginning of the school year. It teaches children about acceptance and that everyone is unique. I think it helps students who are shy or new to the school feel more confident about opening up and talking to new people. It also helps other students be accepting of their peers. I believe that this is extremely important to teach to children at a young age, and this is a great book to help with that. Following her first book, "I'm New Here," this sequel follows three immigrant children who arrive in the US. This book, however, focuses on three students who eventually befriend the three immigrants. A great duo, one representing the experiences of immigrants, the other giving an example on how to welcome them. This book was very well done. The illustrations were very detailed and included a lot of bright colors. This book touches on the different reasons that people from other countries immigrate into the US. It is hard and scary for not only the children but their parents as well. The children struggle with school and not everyone is accepting when they first arrive. The book incorporates the theme of acceptance. The children in the classroom were a bit skeptical of the new students in the classroom because they thought they were two different. The might speak a different language and/or have different cultures, but they do have some similarities of the other students. It is important for children to know that you should be kind to others and get to know them because you never know when you will make a new friend.
