Well, I have a statement, first, this book has been circling my recommendations for a while and after seeing it a few days ago, I finally picked it up and read it. When I finished it, I enjoyed all aspects of it but since I've read some of the books in the series already I don't see why I would return to it any time soon. Unless they make a new book, in that case I'd be glad to read that. It starts with the main character Olive whose last name I'm not sure of living as a 5th grader somewhere (most likely America) but here's the catch and point of the novel: she has no group to join. Yet. She tries to join one initially to no avail in the first half of the story. That is until Olive gets advice from her mother and aunt (which I found heartwarming. Did I mention the art here is good and complements the narrative? It would work fine without the art but that only makes it better.) Eventually Olive has an idea to start a show where she talks like the ones on TV and that ends the book. Oh and the characters are likable and the pacing is much better than the last few books I read (since they were too slow. This one wasn't.) ( )

Olive's class is going to have a variety/talent show, but she doesn't know what kind of act she is going to do. All of her friends start getting into groups based on their planned performance, making Olive feel left out. Her mom tries to help, but Olive just gets more depressed, until her Aunt Molly steps in with an idea.

Click is a very light, easy reading graphic novel that addresses the idea of finding how to fit in. What makes this special is that Olive finds a talent, but goes her own way to do so. There are some other subjects included like over-involved parents and getting along with siblings, but these themes are addressed very superficially throughout the novel. Overall, Click is a cute graphic novel that addresses some heavier topics in a fairly juvenile way. ( )

This book is for intermediate to middle-aged students. This book tells the story of a 5th-grade student, Olive, whose class just announced their annual variety show, where every students needs to find something to do for the talent show. Olive is excited at first, but as she watches all her friends find their own things to do with each other, she realizes that nobody asked her to be a part of their group to perform. Why does everybody have their own group, and why wasn't Olive invited? Was she just the "extra friend," she worries. After having a visit with her aunt, however, Olive begins to realize that you don't have to have a "group" to have friends, you can always march to the beat of your own drum.
This is a book with a very important message for girls around the age of late elementary to early middle. This book illustrates the social issues that coming with this age, and how to navigate these hardships and become comfortable with yourself before focusing on having enough friends. This book is also a graphic novel, and the illustrations are the majority of how this story is told. This goes to illustrate the different characters and setting very descriptively.

Cute, straightforward story with engaging personalities and illustrations. Olive takes awhile to find her place in the 5th grade variety show, because she's friends with everyone. There's not a lot of plot depth, here, or complexity, but it's a really pleasant narrative. Would be a great book for kids who aren't quite ready to tackle Telgemaier, but who are attracted to those books. ( )
