Defy the darkness. Defend the light. Drem and his friends flee the battle at Starstone Lake to warn the Order of the Bright Star. They've witnessed horrors they'll never forget, such as magic warping men into beasts. But worst of all, they've seen a demon rise from the dead - making it even more powerful. Now Fritha, the demons' high priestess, is hunting Drem's party. Concealed in Forn Forest, Riv struggles to understand her half-breed heritage. She represents the warrior angels' biggest secret, one which could break their society. And when she's found by the Ben-Elim's high captain, he swoops in for the kill. As demonic forces multiply, they send a mighty war-host to overthrow the angel's stronghold. This could decimate the fractured Ben-Elim. And their allies in the Order may be too overwhelmed to send aid - with Fritha and her monstrous beasts closing in. Like heroes of old, Drem and the Bright Star's warriors must battle to save their land. But can the light triumph when the dark is rising? A Time of Blood is the spectacular follow-up to John Gwynne's A Time of Dread.… (mehr)

Thrilling, of course. But also deeply satisfying to be immersed in the Banished Lands once again. Lots of depth in the new characters and never a dull moment, as I've come to expect with Gwynne's writing.

Hmm... It took me nearly two weeks to finish this book when I could have knocked it out in a week. I blame a new video game pickup, Satisfactory.

This book was a lot of fun to read. If you prefer a heavier lean on action and combat over a focus on world building, then you will like this book. It's the Banished Lands, it's a good one written by Gwynne.

That which is good begins to fall apart and wither, showing how fragile it truly was, evil begins to spread its machinations in new ways, and quite a few people are going to have heads flying, bones cracking or an untimely and gruesome death.

I look forward to finishing this series. It's a shame that the next book in the series will be the 'final one' in the Banished Lands. If it wasn't for Gwynne's writing I would say that the demand to continue the Banished Lands saga would be strong, if it isn't already.

Thanks John. I enjoyed this book. ( )

Pretty much perfect if you like battles between giants and bears, feral hordes, and winged warriors. :)

The plot is pretty standard, with some family reconciliation, more bloodshed, and even more bloodshed. As if the title wasn't spot-on, right? :)

Still, I really enjoyed the whole creation of the ferals in both books. :) ( )
