Everyone in middle school has one, so she just had to have one too. The only problem is it takes up so much of her time and she starts to wonder if she has any friends at all. She has to build a following on SoFamous, and learn the texting lingo as well as keeping up with all of the important koala videos. She has to learn to let some of the popular things go before Locker eats her phone! I would recommend this for fans of the series as well as preteens just starting middle school. It is written in a fiction format which is a little different from the graphic novel format. I think those who are fans of the graphic novels will pick this one up. This was an entertaining book with a hidden message about the potential dangers of technology/Internet and the benefits of real-life friendship. (Don't get me wrong -- I use smart phones, social media, etc. but all things need to be in moderation.) The format of the book is interesting -- mostly a chapter book but with a mix of some of the panels used in comics (the medium in which the Babymouse series originated). The illustrations are definitely essentially to helping tell the story.
The book reads quickly and humorously. Kids are sure to love it. It has that hi-lo appeal for middle school readers, but it remains innocent enough that younger kids can also read it. I can definitely see elementary school-age children who have older siblings being particularly interested in this title. ( )
