This is a love story about love stories. And, as important, a story about why fate will sometimes feel like luck. "They swirl around each other, like they're being pulled into orbit." Robyn always thought that she and her destiny were inseparable facts. That true love was waiting around the corner, if only she kept looking. "She saw signs everywhere and thought of the whole cosmos like an ocean. It was looking to wash beautiful things up on shore, like seashells. All she had to do was pick them up." But when celebrated author Gatory Penn comes to town with a novel contradicting everything in her world, Robyn discovers that believing in love will mean confronting an old man's broken heart. Written to be read in one sitting, this heartfelt novella will stick with you long after you finish reading.… (mehr)

It was one of the cutest little love stories I've ever read! Beginning was a little slow, but I absolutely am in love with this story. Will there ever be more? I need more of Robyn and Jay!! ( )

THE BRIGHTEST stands out among modern short novels not only as a welcome reprieve from all the murders and hate,
but for lovely lines: "In those letters her parents had found a way to write a new language."

As the main character and daughter of those parents,
Robyn winds her way through the gentle plot to find her own sweet love.

If only ALL our lives could enjoy such positive promise!

(Had to look up "bokeh blur" and "Ambedo...")

What could be reimagined: if Jay truly believes that trees are magic, then why tear off the leaves of a bush?
Also, female readers are more likely to identify when the main female is not so perfectly beautiful. ( )
