The charming first book in a new early-reader series, starring the spirited and outspoken Anne Shirley as she first arrives at Green Gables. Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert need help on their farm, so they've adopted what they hope will be a sturdy, helpful boy. Instead, Matthew finds Anne awaiting him at the train station imaginative, brash, redheaded Anne-with-an-e. With her place at the Cuthberts at risk--particularly if nosy neighbor Mrs. Lynde has anything to say about it--Anne will have to learn patience, understanding and what it takes to make Green Gables her true home.… (mehr)

The author and illustrator of this adaption from Anne of Green Gables both capture the essence of Anne's arrival at Green Gables. I believe Anne fans and purists will be delighted as much as I was when I read it. Highly recommended. ( )

A beautiful adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. This is perfect for young readers that might be intimated by the original. Packed full of vibrant, colorful images that go along with the story. Definitely recommend for all lovers of Anne. ( )

Excellent illustrations by Abigail Halpin render this version of Anne of Green Gables a lovely, sunny book.

The Cuthbert's want a boy to help on the farm. Instead, they receive a red headed girl with long straggly braids. It is easy to feel unloved and not able to fit in when you have longed for consistency and instead find chastisement.

Shame, shame on the older people, names Mrs. Lynde who simply cannot keep her nasty thoughts to herself, thus affirming Anne's self doubt.

Sharp tempered, Anne must learn how to overlook nastiness and extend a hand of forgiveness. ( )

This is the first book in an early reader series about Anne of Green Gables. This short chapter book covers the first chapter of the novel. I wish this series had been around when I tried to read Anne to my young daughter. It is very true to the original story. The illustrations are wonderful and appear vintage so as not to take away from the time of the story. They do a wonderful job of depicting the storyline. This would make a beautiful story for a parent and child to read together while introducing them to the world of Anne with an "e". Even with this shorter version, the personalities of Anne, Marilla and Matthew shine through. This is a great book to introduce young children to a classic piece of literature. The publisher, Penguin Random House Canada - Tundra Books, provided me with a copy of this book to read. The opinions stated are my own. ( )

An early chapter book version introducing the beloved tale of Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery to a slightly younger set. Anne Arrives: Inspired by Anne of Green Gables covers Anne's arrival at Green Gables and her acceptance into the Cuthbert family, complete with vividly colored illustrations. This is supposed to be the first in a chapter book series on Anne. I can't wait to read the successive books! ( )
