While a lot of what this author says, I already knew or was doing, the extensive research she did to support her points is impressive. I am keeping this book on my shelf of reference books, and while I'm mostly past using her advice in my parenting, I've been thinking a lot about how to bring this research into my teaching to help combat students' fear of failure and learned helplessness. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. This was a very quick easy read. While many of the things in the book were common sense or had been presented elsewhere, I found the idea of helping children break goals down into small manageable chunks was incredibly sensible. It is also a useful life skill.Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. The strategies that are provided are to give parents a better focus on parenting. Some issues covered are not new to some, but to a lot of parents, teaching, motivating and inspiring their child takes "a village" to help. This book covers some ways that you can feel confident when focusing on your child's discipline, parenting strategies that work and personality traits. Perseverance counts and this book will help to show you how to keep going "with grit". Curiosity and interest-building activities can help a child to define a passion, buried before with no idea how to reach within for it. Ever wonder how to work with school personnel? A nightmare no more; this book will help to get that needed help, how to model for them and how their own social factors can influence the development of grit. I recommend this book to anyone interested in helping a child to find their potential. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. I first read Grit, by Angela Duckworth and loved her book. So when I saw Laila Sanguras’ Raisig Children with Grit I was certainly interested. Laila answers a lot of questions Duckworth left hanging on the subject, such as HOW do we inspire grit? Raising Children With Grit was an easy read with great analogies, and although I am not a parent I have shared this with a friend who is. I look forward to getting her feedback and hope she enjoys this bought provoking book like I did.Zeige 5 von 5 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Grit, the combination of passion and perseverance, has more of an influence on success than cognitive ability, and parents want nothing more than to raise happy, successful children. Raising Children With Grit: Parenting Passionate, Persistent, and Successful Kids provides the strategies that parents need to teach, motivate, and inspire children to pursue their passions with grit--and succeed. And by focusing on self-discipline, parenting strategies, and personality traits, parents can cultivate perseverance in their children. By coupling that with an emphasis on curiosity and interest-building activities, parents can help their children define their passions. Additionally, this book offers tips for parents about working with school personnel, how to model grit in their own lives, and how social factors can influence the development of grit. I am a fairly even mix between Authoritative (39%) and Authoritarian (35%) and I would say that is correct. I try to be firm and “The Parent” but to allow for the ability to develop independence, granting greater freedoms the older they get. I suspect the Authoritarian parts of my parenting style are what lead to some of the conflicts and issues with my children. I’m also a free range parent, although I was under the misconception that it meant permissive. It is described as “a common sense approach. Parents keep their children safe without protecting them too much from life.” That is my exact goal and policy, although I don’t know that I am always successful at it. I’m also a consultant parent, because I absolutely believe it is better for a child to make a mistake when the consequences are less than when they are an adult.
It is a small book, but packed with lots of helpful information and ideas. I think this is one I will come back to time and time again for reference.
