Good retelling of Peter Parker's origin story. ( )

This was my very first comprehensive graphic novel, Ultimate Spider-Man vol. i. I was ten years old when I first read it and while some might contend that I was too young for such a literary siesta (wink wink), it started a long drawn out love affair with Bendis' Spider-Man.

Heightening the nostalgia is the fact that this series graced our bookshelves at the same time Rami's Spider-Man battled it out on the silver screen. Whilst the 80's/90's presented us with a more street-smart Peter Parker Bendis 2000's variation is still the stereotypical high school geek suddenly turned powerful vigilante-something which keeps true to the heart of the original Spider-Man mythos.

Graced with mind-boggling artwork; riotous coloring and memorable dialogue Ultimate Spider-Man is the quintessential Spider-Man. Spider-Man as it should be. ( )

It is (was) a great reboot to the Spider-man universe. I remember buying the first copy back in the day. The art and writing are very good and engaging, and the character twists make the story interesting, instead of repetitious. ( )

Holy crap, a Spider-Man comic I actually like! That is pretty amazing. The art is good, the writing outstanding, and seeing Parker grow into his role as Spider-Man is wonderful to read. And I actually like Peter in this! Why did I wait so long to read this series? ( )

Yet another Spider-man origin story. It's nothing entirely groundbreaking, and rehashes a lot of familiar ground. Peter's back in high school. Uncle Ben and Aunt May are younger than they'd been depicted in previous iterations. I'm sure that as this series progressed, the Ultimate-verse becomes more unique, but this mainly felt like same old-same old and I didn't have a driving need to continue with the series. ( )
