*SPOILER* Narrated by Julie Dretzin. A series of race-based attacks and murders have been terrorizing Jenna's college campus. The tension permeatse the campus and affects Jenna's own interracial romance with Damon, her black boyfriend. Jenna is determined to help uncover the killer, which disturbs Damon. Turns out the killer has two physical conditions which allow him to change his skin color through mind control and flex the features of his face so no one can provide the police with an accurate description. It's assumed that because of his ambiguous coloring that he hates all races equally. Farfetched and slow-paced for me. ( )

This is the 6th book of 10 in the Body of Evidence series. Jenna Blake is our heroine and she's a freshman at Somerset College and has a job working for the pathologist, doing various duties both in the office and the Autopsy room.

In this book several people are murdered and it appears to be race related. It started with a white guy attacking a black couple yelling racial slurs and then a couple days later followed by a white man being killed by a black man, possibly in retaliation. As the attacks and body count rise, the racial tension on the collage campus it being stretched to the limits. Jenna's dating a black man helps bring home the issues and she vows to do what she can to help stop the killings.

Pretty good book, the series is a young adult mystery and most of the stories have not had any push button topics. This book did and I think it did an excellent job of showing 2 sides to the race issue and how it still affects many today. Good quick read. ( )

This is the only book I have from Christopher Golden's 'Body of Evidence' series. If this book is any indication, you don't need to read other books in the series to enjoy just one. Jenna Blake is the new Nancy Drew, but her clues are dead bodies. She can't leave well enough alone... and that makes her fun to read about. She also has a lot of life stuff going, with boys and college besides. These books should have been read by the producers of 'Tru Calling' because then it might have been a good show. 'Skin Deep' itself is a good book because the killer with the pages may be motivated by racism, which brings up all sorts of issues for our Ms Blake who is currently dating an African American. Though intended for a young adult audience, I found myself enjoying every page. Golden probably snuck in a little social commentary, too. This title is highly recommended. ( )
