Het eerste deel van het boek vond ik echt geweldig .... wat een leuke stijl om een verhaal te vertellen, om je mee te nemen in die grenzeloze passie .
Vernieuwend , meeslepend , echt de moeite.
Maar het tweede deel , vond ik minder, de spanning was er wat uit voor mij , en het was of bladzijde na bladzijde herhaalde wat ervoor al gezegd werd.
Uiteindelijk heb ik nog 3,5 gegeven als quotering , daar waar ik voor het eerste deel 4,5 of zelfs 5 zou gegeven hebben . ( )

A young woman lives a quiet life, working as a teacher, mother to a young girl. Everything changes when Sarah enters her life like a whirlwind. A stormy relationship begins, taking the characters on trips all over Europe, in a love affair that resembles a volcano. And if it sounds cheesy, it is. Horribly.

Written in present tense, the focus is on Sarah through the eyes of her lover. Sarah is quite the character, her turbulent nature and temperament is a force impossible to be controlled and I really liked her. She reminded me of myself to a certain extent. Delabroy- Allard presents a story that is nothing to write home about and what power manages to achieve during Part I is quickly dissolved to an array of hysterics that I could neither understand nor empathize with. What I admired, though, was the writer's depiction of the complexity of love. When does it become an obsession strong enough to make you neglect your own child? In fact, the narrator was a horrible, egoistic, suffocating character. A hysterical, naive person and the repetition of her thoughts made me lose all interest during the second half of the book.

What kept me going was the beautiful setting of Paris during the spring. The writer paints with words when describing the City of Light, the sunlight, the boulevard du Montparnasse, the flowers, the vibe of this special city. Music plays a major part in the story and there are references to French culture and the films of François Truffaut and Jacques Tati.

To readers that have a heart and enjoy ''stormy relationship stories'' without any other trace of a plot or a cast of actually interesting characters, this novel will work like a charm. I struggled to reach its last page and the result was utterly disappointing...

Dit gaat over Sarah. Door Pauline Delabroy-Allard.

Net als de (geweldige) cover is dit een boek dat je meeneemt in een spiraal van verlangen, hunkeren, missen, een alles verterende liefde kortom. De liefde tussen de hoofdpersoon en Sarah. Sarah met de groene ogen, Sarah die zes en een half is gebleven, Sarah die leeft.

Het aanstrijken van een lucifer, de geur van zwavel, zal altijd de geur van een liefdesverklaring blijven. Dat moment in de tijd markeert een punt vanaf waar alles anders wordt. De verteller valt in de spiraal die Sarah heet; haar schoolwerk, haar dochter, alles moet wijken voor de passie die haar aanwakkert. Ze hunkert voortdurend (naar het lichaam van Sarah).

Dit boek bevat 2 delen, en elk deel bestaat uit een groot aantal korte hoofdstukjes, genummerd alsof het tastbare fragmenten zijn. Ze vormen een soort van innerlijk dagboek, een verslag van een liefde die zo hard brandt dat er wel iets verkeerd moet gaan. Dat komen we (voor een stuk) te weten in deel 2. Voor mij het iets mindere deel, hoewel het in eenzelfde soort vurige sneltreinvaart is geschreven en doet lezen. Dat zal meer te maken hebben met het feit dat ik een hopeloze romanticus ben die hunkert naar ‘happy endings’ dan met het boek zelf, denk ik.

Al bij al is Dit gaat over Sarah een verschroeiend debuut. Het klopt en bruist, het borrelt en druist met volle kracht vooruit. Het kruipt in je hoofd, onder je huid. Pauline schrijft met een koorts die bezwerend werkt. Dit smaakt naar meer. ( )

Una noche, en una fiesta, dos mujeres se conocen por azar. Una vive su rutina de madre soltera y profesora con una pareja circunstancial. La otra es violinista, excéntrica, sensual y culta. Habla y ríe demasiado. Es Sarah.

A partir de entonces se suceden citas improvisadas, almuerzos, conciertos, lecturas, los cuartetos de Beethoven y la primavera en París. Hasta que un día Sarah dice: «Creo que me he enamorado de ti». Y se desata el amour fou, la pasión que quema a cada instante y que, como ocurre con todas las grandes pasiones, no puede acabar bien.

Voy a hablar de Sarah es la última gran revelación literaria francesa. Ha ganado importantes premios (estuvo a un paso del Goncourt) y ha sido comparada con Marguerite Duras y Yourcenar con su primera novela, hipnótica y arrasadora, que deja una huella indeleble.
