Summary:
This book is about different zoo animals. The author writes individual poems about different animals. The poems are fun and cool to read because each poem is very definite about whatever animal the poem is about. The pictures are entertaining to look at.

Reflection:
I really enjoyed looking at all the pictures, and the pictures I liked the most where the poems I actually read. I think that is what a lot of kids will do. Pictures really get young kids attention, so if there is a good intriguing picture, then the child will most likely read the poem/story that goes with it. Young children would love seeing all the goofy pictures and the entertaining poems.

1. Have the kids pick their favorite animal and do some research over the animal, then tell the class about their animal.
2. Have the kids pick an animal and try to write short poems over their animal

Summary:

Zany Zoo is a book of a collection of poems about animals. Each individual Poem is Centered on an animals such as Sabrina the snake, and Rob the raccoon. One particular poem that I liked was “A Big Family” about Olga the otter who had so many children she would lose track of them.

Personal Reaction:

I liked this book. I thought that the author expressed his creativity, by writing funny poem book about animals. I especially liked how he used personification and added human qualities to the animals. The poem “A big family was funny to me, because I can relate to the craziness of having a lot of children to keep track of.

Classroom extension:

1.) I will have the students choose their favorite zoo animal write a poem about it.
2.) As a class we will make up a short funny poem about zoo animals from A to Z ( making them human like ex; a baboon who would not take a bath. ( )

Summary:Zany Zoo is a book full of short animal poems. Each animals has its own unique name and the poem tells a short story about them. One of the poems is about four little rabbits who eat garlic all day. When the fox comes to eat the rabbits they all breathe garlic fumes in his face and make their hares breath escape.

Personal thoughts: I think this book is a great way to start introducing poetry to children. I think that the poems are very funny and the children will enjoy listening to them. The poems are easy for the children to understand and stay interested in.

Classroom ideas:
1. Have the students draw one of the animals from the story without getting to see the illustration.
2. Have the children make up their own funny poem.

Summary:
Zany Zoo is a collection of poems that all include animals. The short poems rhyme. My favorite poem was about a hungry mouse eating a luscious piece of cake. It rhymed and was entertaining.
Personal Reaction:
I enjoyed these poems. They were creative and random.
Extension Ideas:
I would have the children write their own 4 line poem.
I would have my students make a collage of their favorite animals. ( )

Zanny zoo is a collection of poems about animals. One poem was about a cool cat who got fat. He falls in love with a feline and tries to get her attention. He puts on is snug clothes and starts to dance and suddenly his clothes start to rip at the seem. Another poem called a big family was about a mother otter and her huge family. She looses track of who they are so she ends up putting their names on the backs of their shirts.

Very cute pictures of the baby animals. Very funny. The animals do things that humans do.

In my classroom I could read the poem aloud, then write one on a poster board or on a dry erase board and have the children circle words that rhyme. Have the children write a come up with a poem together while I write it on the dry erase board for them.
