I really enjoyed this read; all the characters worked (even the tween hockey boys), and Ben and Adam were good for each other. I’ve been immersed in Check, Please! fanfic lately, so I basically read this as a Jack and Bitty AU (which it may have well been—it’s too coincidental to not be) which was fun. I love Penelope Peters' books. I love her characters and the warm feeling I have any time I finish them, and the diversity that it's so evident in her stories. Here we have two Jewish men, both who had to give up their dreams for different circumstances: Adam because of a car crash that killed his mom and invalidated his dad; Ben because of an injury. Now, Adam is a coach of pre-teens in Montreal, and Ben has a Bakery in Boston. Ha! you'll say. I already know the main conflict! They live far away! Sorry, no. That issue is on the table but the main conflict between the MCs is about religion, and how we exercise our own faith. The theme runs all along the book and it's wonderful. And I think Sheldon, Ben's best friend nails it perfectly: "Pretty sure the Big Guy doesn’t care how you celebrate the holiday, as long as you remember He’s the one behind it. That’s kind of what all religions boil down to, isn’t it? Be good to one another, and remember Me?" All the secondary characters are great, Sheldon and Farida (Ben's and Adam's best friends), Adam's dad... but the kids! oh, the kids make this story even better! What can I say? I love Penelope Peters' writing, and can't wait to begin [b:What Happens at Bonded Beach|40550578|What Happens at Bonded Beach|Penelope Peters|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1529261855s/40550578.jpg|62927875] Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Adam Bernard's love-life is on ice. Adam gave up his dreams of professional hockey when his mom died ten years ago; now his only focus is being the Jewish son his dad's always wanted. Problem is, the pee-wee hockey team he coaches is in Boston for an international tourney the same week as Hanukkah. Now he's stuck in a foreign city without so much as a candle. Enter Ben Daniels, the super-cute owner of the local kosher-style bakery. All Adam wants is a chance to celebrate the holiday away from home - but sweet and sexy Ben could light more than just Adam's candles. Ben Daniels's love-life is on the back-burner. Ben hasn't stepped on the ice in three years. The official reason is that he's too focused on making his kosher-style bakery a success. Problem is, he's never kept kosher in his life, and internet searches only take you so far. Enter Adam Bernard, in town for one week only, with all the cultural touchstones anyone could want. All Ben wants is Adam's Certified Jewish Opinion on his sufganiyot - but Adam could be the one to light Ben's desire for ice again. This Hanukkah, Adam and Ben find their miracles aren't only on the ice. Their fling was only meant to last for the holiday. But Adam's about to get the chance to rewrite his history - and Ben's dreams of business success are about to come true. Will they be so willing to extinguish their relationship in eight days - or will their Hanukkah miracle last for a lifetime? Ben's Bakery and the Hanukkah Miracle is a m/m romance with a HEA ending. It features two sexy and sincere Jewish guys, match-making 12-year-old hockey players, and lots of yummy kosher donuts. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

It should have been much better. I guess it was too slow, and both parties were too insecure for my taste. Plus, the author kept hinting hinting hinting at the backstories but man, I gave up before the beans were spilled. ( )
