I remember reading the Mark of the Cat a long time ago in its standalone version and getting wrapped up in the story of Hynkkel and the world in which he is located. A number of years later, I finally got the chance to read both stories within this universe created by Andre Norton and inspired by the works of Karen Kuykendall. Once again, I literally devoured the first half of the story - but then found myself slowing down through the second. It was not that I don't like Andre Norton (I have entire shelves for her collection) but that it didn't inspire as much as the first. Overall, it is still a good read and I would recommend it to anyone interested in an introduction to Andre's work - but I definitely prefer the first half to the second. ( )

Continues the story begun in Mark of the Cat to its ending with the final showdown and triumph against the Evil Rat Controller. First time I have ever paid that much for a paperback! I've never seen two books put together like this where the first part sold for practically nothing and the two parter sold for so very much. I couldn't Not buy it because I had to know how it came out. As an Andre Norton fan since my discovery of her in the 1950's I was Helpless. ( )
