I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a heartwarming book with a little magic. I never read books like this (it could be a Hallmark movie), but I could barely put this one down. Honestly, I would be more than happy to live the life of the main character in her small town while working in a bakery. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Heather Webber's Midnight at the Blackbird Café is a captivating blend of magical realism, heartwarming romance, and small-town Southern charm. Nestled in the mountain shadows of Alabama lies the little town of Wicklow. It is here that Anna Kate has returned to bury her beloved Granny Zee, owner of the Blackbird Café. It was supposed to be a quick trip to close the café and settle her grandmother's estate, but despite her best intentions to avoid forming ties or even getting to know her father's side of the family, Anna Kate finds herself inexplicably drawn to the quirky Southern town her mother ran away from so many years ago, and the mysterious blackbird pie everybody can't stop talking about. As the truth about her past slowly becomes clear, Anna Kate will need to decide if this lone blackbird will finally be able to take her broken wings and fly."-- Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

Anna Kate arrives in Wicklow, Alabama to take over the Blackbird Cafe, which was owned by her grandmother, who has recently passed. In her grandmother's will, Anna Kate must stay for 60 days and tie up loose ends before moving back to New England and going to med school.
Anna Kate doesn't want to be in Wicklow and doesn't want to meet any of the townspeople. Her mother, Eden, has expressed her dislike of the town so Anna Kate arrives with this perception of Wicklow already in her mind. To further complicate matters, there are a bunch of bird-watchers camped out outside the cafe to hear the blackbirds sing. But they only sing for one hour every day - between midnight and one in the morning.
I enjoyed the characters in this book, including the parallel story of the blackbirds. This is a character-driven book. I was pulled in immediately and loved getting to know these characters. ( )
