This was an excellent piece of historical fiction about the "donut dollies" of the Red Cross who served donuts and coffee to the troops during WWII through the Red Cross Clubmobile. The book focused on 3 very different young women who were assigned a truck together. They fast became friends and traveled from London to Northern Britain and finally to France, ending up just miles from Berlin. I was surprised that they served so close to the front(s). The book was a bit too sweet, in that all 3 found their loves while serving; however, all in all it was a great read! ( )

This is my second book I’ve read by Jane Healey. I usually don’t enjoy any book that is set during WW2 but I liked The Saturday Evening Girls Club so much I decided to give this one a shot too. I’m glad I did! For me it was a completely different aspect of WW2 focusing on strong women and how the war affected and changed them. ( )

A novel of love, courage, and danger unfolds as World War II’s brightest heroines—the best of friends—take on the front lines.
Wow, this book is full of feels. Laughter, suspense and tears. I really knew nothing about the Red Cross Clubmobile girls until I saw them mentioned on The Great British Baking Show and was fascinated by the story. When I saw this book was being published I was immediately interested.. The author does a great job of explaining all the training and requirements of these women. It is certainly much more than doughnuts.
I felt the book did an excellent job of making you feel how it felt to be in the middle of a war and find love. Highly recommend this to all that love WWII, historical fiction genre and to all that love a great story. ( )

Another Historical Fiction novel by Jane Healey which center around a group of women from Boston who belong to "real" organizations. The Beantown Girls is about three college friends from Boston who join the Red Cross Clubmobile. The Clubmobile traveled through the "European Front" during WWII serving coffee and donuts and a piece of America in the form of attractive women.

This story includes friendship, romance, and war. It is heartwaming. ( )
