Cassie Crow is a workaholic journalist that is stuck in the pop culture section of ChiChat, a daily morning show. With her four friends, they go on their dream vacation together. Each of them picked an European city to visit. They spend six weeks touring Europe. Cassie made an oath to herself that she would let her hair down and have a bit of fun. Oh, and she wants a foreign fling. She gets just that when she runs into a Highlander while touring a Scottish castle in Edinburgh.

Logan Reid started his wildly successful web series, Shenanigans with her sister shortly after his father died. Logan is known to pull of some pretty hilarious hijinx for a laugh. The series is gaining popularity by the day especially since Logan started pranking other people. His latest prank turned into a complete blessing for him. Pretend to be a time traveling Highlander stuck in the hidden bookcase....see what happens. What happens is the best experience of Logan's life. He finds himself caught --literally. Cassie called him out and then....gave him the best kiss of his life.

She won't sign the waiver so they can post the video. Logan follows her to London the final destination of the girls' trip. Logan gets more than he bargained for. He set out for a signature, but he gained much more.

Can the prankster commitment phobe get over his issues?

Can he convince Cassie of his true intentions?

How can they be together when their careers are in the way? ( )

Getting Hot with the Scot is a whirlwind roadtrip romance with a just-a-fling beginning and a swoonworthy hero. Reader, I loved it.

Here are the three keys to getting the most out of your GHWTS experience:

Have a snack. There's a scene with clootie dumplings and cream that will make you hungry. Like, I hate fruitcake but still want this in my face.
Ignore the hero's name. Yes, he's an internet video prankster named Logan, but he is nothing like Logan Paul.
Picture said hero as a ginger Richard Madden, since that's what Melonie Johnson suggests herself. Google image search him. Or just watch "Richard Madden Reads Thirst Tweets." You can thank me later.

Okay, now that's out of the way, let's talk about the book. I'm not in a great place to critically analyze it since I'm sitting here in happy book bliss, but I will try.

There's a bit of a deception plot, since the hero meets the heroine during a prank. (He's in a kilt in a castle and they end up kissing... on film.) He's trying to get her to sign off on airing the clip so he can secure a television contract. This is handled well, and he's not a jerk. There's some miscommunication but it's short-lived, but I know this can be a deal-breaker for some. I'm usually one of those people, but I was fine here.

On the other side is a book full of banter and female friendship, plus traveling around London and various eateries. While some books struggle to balance the heroine's relationships with her friends and coworkers with the central romantic relationship, Johnson managed it well. Cassie is fun to be around, and I kind of want her friends to be my friends. (Logan's friend Theo and Cassie's friend Bonnie are the couple in the next book, Smitten by the Brit.)

While the romance starts as a holiday fling (complete with wall sex), it evolves into a relationship that I believe can go the distance. Not just because they want to screw each others' brains out, but because they can laugh together and seem to be genuine friends. The whole thing is charming, and I look forward to reading the next two. ( )

This book, "Getting Hot with the Scot," was the first that I've read from author Melonie Johnson and I thought it was very cute! I liked Cassie as the main character, and I appreciated that she cared about her work and professional reputation. I especially enjoyed her friendship with her girl pals, how they looked after one another and gently teased everyone. Even Cassie and her mom's conversations were really sweet! All of the secondary characters were well-developed and not just stereotypes or archetypes there to further the plot or shout, "Oh no he didn't" to the main character.

Logan seemed charming and hot and I loved seeing him and Cassie dance around each other. The angst wasn't too overwhelming, just enough for you to see how they decide to work things out. There was a lot of humor and some great witty moments. I appreciated how the author set up Cassie and Logan's respective friends for their own sequel (with a little shout out to Ariel and Prince Eric)!

Overall, I definitely enjoyed the book. My only complaint is that the book felt long - I thought it was wrapping up but then there was a whole third act!

I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ( )

Melonie Johnson is a new author for me, and this was a book that didn't disappoint! Hot man in a kilt with a killer Scottish accent American tourist just wanting a vacation fling = too much fun! Can't wait to start the next one in the series!

Cassie Crow is on a once-in-a-lifetime vacation through Europe with four of her best friends. Their second-to-last stop is Scotland and she's still toting around a box full of condoms she was hoping to use on a foreign fling. She's loaded her charm bracelet with keepsakes from each stop so her final goal is to be impulsive and leave with a heart-pounding memory that she'll never forget.
While on a tour of a Scottish castle Cassie stumbles upon a kilted Highlander stuck in a wall who is trying to convince her he's a time-traveller. She may not fall for it but she's unable to resist him and so the encounter results in a searing kiss...until she releases who he is and becomes furious.
Logan Reid is a sexy, charming Scot who has built a career hosting off-the-wall hijinks on the web. He's looking to move to TV but in order to do so he must prove that he can garner the female viewers. When he meets Cassie, he finds his big break. Only problem? She refuses to sign the release form. She's trying to advance her career and be taken seriously as a broadcast journalist so she knows that allowing this video to air can destroy her credibility.

Getting Hot with the Scot was such a cute, fun read. I loved the setting - there's nowhere I want to visit more than Scotland - and the meeting between Cassie and Logan was priceless. Their chemistry is undeniable and I was rooting for them to work it out - even if Logan was a bit too immature for my liking.
This is a quick read but at times it felt like it was a little too long and the pacing could have been better. There are a lot of characters and the way it switched POV's could be a bit distracting.
That being said, I'm excited for the next installment - especially since it'll focus on Bonnie and Theo!
