A fast paced plot but it was distracting when it jumped backwards and forwards and I had to keep turning back pages to keep up with who each of the characters were, however I loved the fact the novel was set in Ireland.Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. This was a highly enjoyable book, drew me right in and kept me going through to the end. The settings were interesting, spanning a couple countries, and I actually forgot this was an Early Reviewers book, which is high praise, believe me. There was some great conflict with the main characters, unexpected and well written, and some great psychological drama. I would pick up another book by Jane Ryan. The writing is excellent (for the most part), the protagonist likable, the antagonist dislikable, and the pace clips right along. The parts of the writing that bothered me were the typos and the author's use of phrases or words that are not common to other countries. Ms. Ryan didn't do this so much that it turned me against her story, but it did draw me out of the story on occasion. I also was not a fan of her use of multiple points of view. She changed points of view clearly (with a change of chapter), but she didn't do it often enough for me to get to know the characters featured. Without giving away too much, these ancillary characters do end up playing major roles, but especially in the beginning they're very distracting. This is partly because Ms. Ryan did such a wonderful job of designing her protagonist, Bridge. Bridge is flawed, forceful, and interesting, and her relationship with her best friend, Kay, is excellent, so I found myself wanting to spend more time with them. Which meant anytime Ms. Ryan left that story line to pursue other characters, it bothered me. The ending was also left open, I presume to allow for a sequel. But overall, if you're seeking a good detective yarn that will keep you engaged, 47 SECONDS will do that for you. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. This is an intriguing story centred on Detective Garda Bridget Harney. It is as much about her obsession with crime fighting as it is about the work, family and social pressures facing the Detective Garda and the effects on her wellbeing. Themes include misogyny, sexual abuse, organized crime, and internal politics and corruption. The book has the feeling of being the first in a series as it introduces key characters, takes the reader through a crime investigation, and then ends with enough hooks to link it to a sequel, or even a series of sequels. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
