No spoilers, but this one was both terrifically entertaining and wholly gut-wrenching. I’m a little mad at ~certain~ events that happened yet at the same time it made perfect sense and felt like the natural progression of things. Did I tear up and gasp multiple times at these events? Yes. But they still made sense. There were also so many little moments of hope and strength in this volume that I really enjoyed seeing. This and the last volume really sealed the deal for me reading the rest of the series and I can’t wait to see what happens next! ( )

I can't decide whether to give this 3 or 4 stars. The story felt kind of rushed (and not just because I read fast). Because I came from the anime adaptation, I'm more used to seeing the bits that are elided (or at least were added for the anime), so the manga felt like it skipped things. Rengoku's story is still quite good, and I still really enjoyed when his father hears Rengoku's final words. They made me cry again. Unfortunately I still hate Uzui's appearance here. It's just stupid in so many ways.

I would highly recommend anyone who's read the manga and liked this part at all to try the anime adaptation of it. The film is good, and the episodic version adds more scenes to it. ( )
