( ) I've had this book for over 30 years and it's been a long time since I stopped practicing karate. But it was an excellent book that mixed inspiring words with pictures and instructions on kata and kumite. It certainly helped that we used to practice once or twice a year with Ohshima-san and his senior students and unclear elements were usually made clear then. Funakoshi wrote this book at the request of his students. Though I do not study Shotokan Katartedo I feel it is an excellent text book for students of Shotokan and shoud be in every martial artist library regardless of style.
