It was funny and had all the angst of typical teenage life no matter what country you are from. It was also very insightful about life in Iran. It was an eye-opener for me. Persianality takes you on a somewhat naive young womans journey to marry Armand and disappear to Paris and live happily ever after. If only things were that easy though. Jamileh is faced with challenges from the Iran secret police. She can't show public affection towards the man she loves. She ultimately figures out that sometimes the best things in life for you take patience. I received this copy through a memeber giveaway and it has opened my eyes as to aome of the cultural differences that I was unaware of. I really enjoyed this book and will be purchasing Michael Benzehabe's other works. They are filled with quotable lines and felt like an easy read. Very different from my life, yet relatable. The main charachter is so full of contradictions from the start. She feels she knows everything already at 14 and is so willing to share her thoughts. She rebels against traditions while enforcing them. She has only one goal to make it to Paris with Armand. After many bad decisions she has many many more hard learned lessons and has to live with the probably unforgivable consequences. The additional story of Bosco and his family just broke my heart and lifted my spirits all at the same time. This is a really good read. Could be a really good movie.  READER VIEWS Persianality, by Michael Benzehabe lives up to its description as a thrilling bildungsroman or coming-of-age novel through its truly unique main character: Jamileh. She’s young, bold, and naive with her head in the sky and her heart on her sleeve. I like how Jamileh is not a perfect hero, but simply a young girl learning from her mistakes and misinterpretations in a radical environment. In addition, Benzehabe has created a very real and heartbreaking relationship between Jamileh and her father that captures the disconnect that often occurs between a daughter and father. The writing style of the book is beautiful and there are many poetic quotes embedded in the book. One of the quotes that I liked was, “Blame love for your most beautiful dreams and your ugliest nightmares.” Persianality wonderfully captures the struggle to understand others and grow past a single viewpoint in an exciting way.
