I didn't understand why there needed to be the part of the mother as it really served no purpose. However, I enjoyed Toby and Addie and that they got to have this amazing life together. They sounded great. A single mom trying her best to take care of her son. He's been a globetrotter and now he's home after his father passes away. I was more interested in Dave and Margot, the couple who helped their father raise Toby and his brother Johnny when their mama upped and walked away. Or Deanna, the crazy lady whom Addie meets while at work at the market. Scratching my head wondering, what did I miss that this isn't another KA classic for me? Ah, I'll give it a few months and try a reread then. Maybe it will be better the second time around. (  ) ChachaJ | Feb 1, 2021 | Addie is a single mom, struggling hard to make ends meet. She and her sister grew up with their mother after she fled their abusive father. Addie is sweet, but her pride and desire to do it all and not lean on others almost costs her Tobias. Tobias and his brother were raised by their father after their mother abandoned them. He has a lust for adventure but when he meets Addie he decides to settle down in Matlock. For seven months they've kept apart but after a blow up the whole town got to witness, these two get a clue and connect fast and hot. Most of this story is about these two being together, managing day to day things and appreciating each other for the gifts they bring. However they also have baggage which causes kinks in the road. We also get to see both of them getting to confront and deal with their absent parent helping both of them heal. I enjoyed listening to this book, and wished I could find my own Tobias one day but it also pushed the boundaries of realism for me. It's great that he's loaded and allowed him to be over the top generous, but him being a millionaire it comes across as he has no regard for the money he has. Their story started in book 1 where we were introduced to them, there was an attraction but no details. In this book, it's pretty insta from meeting but neither act on it for some time for various reasons, so in that sense it's slow burn. We met Addie when she had left her cheating husband with a young son in tow. We met Toby when he returned home to check out his brothers new girl, he was a bit of a wanderer and we got certain impressions of him. We see a great depth to Toby, the reasons he's lived the life he has. Addie is struggling and she works so hard to provide for Brooks. There is family drama, ex drama, sorrow and heartache but once the relationship between the two is established then it's solid between them (around 30%). There are some very sad moments. There is a scene at the start of Tobias with a hook up, but it is after their time together so there are no intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine. Both are not with anyone else for some time before they get together. No cheating. They are all about each other. HEA. Epilogue. P.S. Grab some tissues. She's got bills to pay, her young son needs food, Christmas is coming and her job at the grocery store just isn't cutting it. Toby is steering clear of Addie. Addie is steering clear of Toby. Slow Burn was so slow it nearly bored me out of my mind.
It was also so sugary sweet I think it gave me a cavity.
The best part of Slow Burn was the beginning and the ending.
There were a few parts in the middle that were decent.
The adult intimate scenes were mostly good, steamy & sometimes funny.
The repetitious thoughts, actions & descriptions go so bad I started skimming.
I never skim a KA book. NEVER!
This one I had to or it would put my butt to sleep.
There is no real action or suspense.
I recommend this story only to those who already read book 1 in the series and want closure to the various elements left open in that book.
Other than that, skip this and read one of her many other series. Those will knock your socks off. This one will just make you sleepy. (
