Great short story anthology absolutely love it! Great range of odd, amusing, old, and modern stories. Anthologies are my favourite type of books and this one fits right in my collection.Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. Compared to other anthologies I’ve read recently, I found this to be a very mixed bag. I also found their definition of fantasy to be rather elastic - Godzilla poetry is fantasy???Ranging from fairly traditional stories through to what I would describe as magical realism, most contributions were reasonably readable, a few eminently so. OK but I’m glad I got it as a freebie. I prefer more tightly curated anthologies to ‘Best of’ (which often come across as ‘we haven’t got enough so we’ve got to add padding’). Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. The “Best of British Fantasy 2018” lives up to its historical forewriters but with modern trappings! Here dwells imagination, surprise and adroit story telling. Standouts include Priya Sharma’s, evolutionarily informed, risky and risqué, “Son of the Sea;” Ian MacDonald’s, deft handling of and in “The Guile;” “The Moss Child” by Lisa Fransson, is serene nocturne with naturalistic echoes of Arthur Machen. Matthew Hughes’, “The Prevaricator,” is a perfect homage to Jack Vance. “Coruvorn,” by Reggie Oliver, seems like an archetypal sort of sweetmeat to me. If that’s not enough, many more stories are listed in the back. Long live British fantasy! keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
The very best fantasy stories by British and British-based authors. More than twenty stories of the strange and fantastic, written by an exciting blend of established names and newer voices, ranging from traditional sword and sorcery to contemporary fantasy. A book packed with mermaids, impossible quizzes, magic swords, towering monsters, ghostly lovers, tricksters, numerous apocalypses, a particularly irritating local councillor... and bees.
