Why I picked this book up: Fun children’s book about transition

Thoughts: Inreally liked the concept, Child’s balking about school and the creativity and super great drawings.

Why I finished this read: with seeing this little girl and teacher.

Emma loves preschool, but most of all she loves her teacher, Mrs. er, Captain Chu. And if Captain Chu isn't teaching her new Kindergarten class, then Emma just won't go. Because pirates don't go to kindergarten!

A delightful story about being yourself, the challenge of change and facing fears. Just what every little pirate, er kindergartner, can relate to. A perfect book for starting school. ( )

Ahhhh. I can see why this was nominated for the best book of the year on Goodreads. It is really cute and the author and illustrator did an amazing job. In this school there are various ships instead of classrooms and Emma wants to stay on her pirate ship, but she is to move up to the spaceship. The hardest thing to leave is her captain. But with the help of said captain, she will learn that pirates can exist in space too.

Goodreads Choice Awards Project: Read as many of the opening round Best Picture Book nominees as possible. 6 to go!

AMAZON CONSPIRACY THEORY!!!!! THE FIX IS IN FOR THE GOODREADS CHOICE AWARDS!!!!

This is the third lackluster book from the publisher Two Lions that I have read in the last three days during my Goodreads Awards project. I've never heard of this publisher before, so I started wondering how they came out of nowhere to have not even three but SIX nominees in the opening round. A close look at the verso page reveals Two Lions is an Amazon company. And with a 7th book from Amazon Crossing Kids in the Picture Book nominees, that means somehow, magically Amazon -- the owner of Goodreads -- managed to capture nearly half the slots in the opening round. What a coincidence!

A quick look at the other categories seems to show that Amazon is not dominating those in the same way, but this still seems pretty darn sketchy. Another good thing tainted...

I recommend everyone do write-ins for this category and try to push out the Two Lions books. I recommend Princess Puffybottom . . . and Darryl or Dandy. ( )
