Written in a reporter interview style we get a lot of different perspectives telling the story about how the band began, how the members came and went and how one lady changed them all. It's full of sex, drugs and rock and roll but the romance was few and far between. I'm not sure if it was the style of writing or the story itself but for a good portion of the book I had no idea where the story was going to lead, but it seemed to heading in a direction I wasn't going to like. In the end I liked a some of it, and absolutely HATED how Lyla was treated and the excuses were not justified in my opinion leaving me conflicted by the end. I won't give things a way and ruin it for other readers but I'm curious how others felt. If you like my reviews I hope you will follow my blog. https://wyldheartreads.wordpress.com/ I am a huge KA fan, I've read most of her work but recently I've felt I couldn't connect with her books..... until this one. This book is amazing. It is a very unusual style. It still managed to have the KA style in it. It's written as a retelling of events of the life of a band but it's done interview format with the occasional more personal events written as first person. It's multiple POV. It follows the ups and downs of the members of the band, some of those events include, drugs and many women. It's real, it's raw and the characters are not perfect. For the safety gang there is mention of the Hero being with many women, no detail, it's more referenced to than described. The heroine is young when they meet so the Hero holds back but is with others. After her birthday there is an issue between them, they are not together, they are separated by the band travelling there is a misunderstanding, he thinks she blew him off so he sets out to hurt her, again there are no details. There are no intimate details of anyone other than the Hero and heroine. No cheating once they are together. During a later separation he is celibate, she is not but again no details. I thought this was a really brave project and I found it fascinating. Preacher's muse, the love of his life, and the band's moral compass, from the beginning, Lyla is along for the ride. But with fame and acclaim in their grasp, they've entered the fast lane. This book marks the the fact that I now own and have read all of this author's books. Over 50 books. There is a reason for that, as she is in a league all her own.
This book was different than I was expecting. Written as more of an interview style, it lacked the fluidity that I was seeking and have come to know. The story itself was good and at times took me back to when this was written. There were glimpses in the old KA men that I had been missing. I hope she goes back to that soon as I've struggled with that connection in her Honey series and also the Miranda series (I couldn't even finish the first book and the others are audible only so I don't count those in my owning all).
Even though this wasn't my favorite it still offered some amazing scenes and showed the strong connection with all her characters feeling like family. ( )
