RGG: Fun, humorous, representation of a young Muslim's boy celebration of his heritage while he and his family overcome prejudice in their community. Reading Interest: 7-11. Absolutely heartwarming, and a model of how to be a gentler, kinder family. I'm not entirely sure that Omar is correct about his tendency to stumble into trouble -- most of the various ups and downs of the book have nothing to do with his actions. Also, there seems to be a lot of commentary about Omar's neurodiversity (?) -- maybe I misunderstood, because he seems like a regular, somewhat daydreamy kid, and his flights of imagination really help him navigate emotional challenges. Anyway, I love the soft humor, the endearing illustrations, and the way Omar's faith and family take the world on with kindness. From the nasty next-door neighbor to the school bully, things have a tendency to work out. That's a beautiful statement and it's a great story. I also admire the straightforward way that Omar explains Islam to his classmates -- I certainly learned a lot. This book follows Omar, whose family just moved and just starting at a new school. This book can be related to students who have recently moved from either a different city, state, or country and are worried about the environment they may be in. That what Omar is going through in this book, but it takes a turn when we see this through his wild imagination. This book is about a young boy named Omar and 10 year old boy and his family move into a new neighborhood. Omar is nervous about going to a new soon, but he does meet someone Charlie and he becomes quite popular in his class. Omar does face bullying for his classmate Daniel, he bullies him about his culture. This is the same for their neighbor Mrs. Rogers, she refers to them as “The Muslims.” This book is really good for students and explains that being kind to those who aren’t kind to you that they will come around. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
