Excellent ( )

I wasn't going to write a review because I always find it very hard to rate a classic novel, particularly one of an apocalyptic nature because they always have a "dated" feeling that detracts from the believability of the apocalypse but since there were no other reviews I felt I have to.

This one isn't as dated as many (ie the sexism and racism are nearly un-noticeable) but the author went with some nutbar explanation of personality devolution post-apocalypse (ie individuals began to revert to being driven by some genetic "memory" that had rested dormant in humankind's cells since the age of the dinosaurs.) The other bothersome factor was that when this novel was written, global warming wasn't really an issue so that aspect of what caused the apocalypse was not fleshed out. If this novel was written today, using what we know about global warming, it would be way more believable and much more frightening. ( )
