The Story of Brer Rabbit and the Wonderful Tar baby is an interesting book. The story is about how a fox and a rabbit get into a tiff and the fox tries to outsmart the rabbit but is unsuccessful.

There are a lot of words on each page of the book and it is rather long. There is a lot of repetitiveness within the text, similar to a poem, but not very poetic.

I did not particularly like the illustrations, they confused me from the text of the story. I do not think they did a good job in helping tell the story.

There is also a reference to hanging and an illustration of the rabbit being hung which I did not think was entirely appropriate.

Some of the words seemed at a higher level than they should be for a picture book.

Retelling: Brer Fox wanted to eat Brer Rabbit and Brer Rabbit was always tricking Brer Fox. They came to a twisty resolution to their conflict in this classic folktale.

Thoughts and Feelings: This story was made to be told aloud. I love how the book has so many silly expressions and creative use of repetition.
