Crayons come together to talk about the different aspects and traits of love. Each crayon has its own page to briefly explain the trait that is represented by its respective color. For example, when we are sad, we say we are "feeling blue," and we think of orange and yellow as bright, cheery colors. No color is left out. The end of the book features a rainbow crayon that says, "Love is every color." All of the crayons are together on one page and are happy to be together. All but the peach one are out of the box, while the peach-colored one is hiding in the box, as the story mentions earlier that "[l]ove is peach because sometimes love can hide." This story is absolutely adorable and teaches kids about love in an original way. Crayons are loved by people of all ages, and we often associate feelings with color. Kids can smile at this story, seeing the cute little crayons and learning about the not-so-nice characteristics of love in an age-appropriate fashion. I also like that no color is left out, as we want our children to grow up treating everyone with respect and dignity. Another thing I found interesting is what I mentioned in the summary about the peach-colored crayon still hiding in the box at the end. I took it to represent the fact that sometimes fear is so strong in people, particularly little ones, that even if everyone else around a frightened person is having a good time, it might be impossible for that person to want to come out of his/her comfort zone. (The other colors let the peach crayon do its own thing, though, and they don't pressure it to come out.) This story is funny, witty, and charming, and the illustrations look like ones a child may have drawn and colored. I also admired this feature because I think it's a great tool for garnering an extra dose of happiness in a young reader. I am extremely happy I stumbled upon this story. Liefde bestaat in verschillende soorten.
