Coming off House of X/Power of X, the first chapter into Dawn of X is a little slow. There's a lot of laughter and shrieking about playing "Who is that they've resurrected now?!" and there's the tongue-in-cheek fact that Hickman was basically made Logan, Jean, Scott, and Emma a polycule that in everything but the written out exact word, with all of them flirting, and three of them with adjoined bedrooms.

Slow going, and very a first chapter, in the way where I was chomping at the bit wondering what all is being set up, given to us in the slow hinting reveals, for all the next chapters. (

I'm a long time fan of the X-men and have been since I was a child. I haven't been happy with the X-men franchise in a long time and stopped reading X-men a few years ago. After hearing all the great things people are saying about X-men and they haven't felt this excited for X-men comics in a long time. I knew I had to check it out for myself. I really enjoyed reading Volume 1 and it has me excited to read more of this updated and new X-men universe. I'm on the look out to find some in these new series to read whether it be individual comics or the next volume.

Read House of X/Powers of X before reading this one, you might be confused at the changes. (

It's been a long while since I've picked up X-men books regularly, but this seemed like a possible jumping-on point.

So now they live on a living mutant island that allows them to have their own nation, portals that take them instantly to many places around the world, and eggs that regularly resurrect dead mutants reset to their prime with their original powers. This sample of first issues for six different titles also seems to show that Marvel is trying to reset the whole X-Men franchise to its prime, during the Chris Claremont 1980s era, back when I first started reading X-Men. So it's actually not bad.

I just find that I really don't care anymore about the hundreds of leading characters for all these many books, and X-Men as a brand does not excite me at this point in time. (
