"A girl with a disability explores every facet of the ocean during a day at the beach. A girl spends an entire day exploring the seaside with her mom. A keen observer, she sees the ocean as both "big" and "small" and both "sparkly" and "dull. It's also "dotted and spiraled and wavy and straight." Her ocean is full of sounds -- it "splashes and crashes" and "laughs and hums." But, at times, it's silent. She is inspired to examine and celebrate every part of her ocean and doesn't let anything hold her back. A delightful nature companion sure to awaken the explorer in every child."--… (mehr)

This is a cute story about nature and how vast and colorful it is. There's something new to discover every day! ( )

A beautifully poetic book about a girl who is exploring her ocean. This book depicts a young girl exploring the ocean whether it be swimming, skipping rocks, and enjoying the ocean with all here senses. The author does not mention her disability at all in writing but does show her crutches in the illustrations on a few pages. This book also has beautiful cut-paper collage illustrations along with some water color, acrylic and pencil crayon, and some digital construction. ( )

Follow along as a young girl explores “her ocean”. Experience the sights, sounds, textures and colors of “her ocean”.
The authors use simple, poetic text combined with colorful cut paper artwork to create book that invites the reader to use their senses. The text invites discussion by almost asking questions that can be answered by exploring the illustrations. This book is recommended as a read aloud or lap book for ages 2-6. ( )

Beautifully illustrated and an eye-opening invitation to expand on the content for young readers who love to imagine. This is a perfect book to read before going to the seashore, or to take on a vacation there. Youngsters could also use it as a beginning point to create their own ocean memory book. Props for having the main character have braces, but not mentioning them in the story. ( )
