Eight years before 9/11, on February 26, 1993, Osama bin Laden and his Al Qaeda terrorist network declared war against the United States with a deadly attack on the World Trade Center. Al Qaeda continued to wage war on the U.S. throughout the Clinton Administration, attacking Khobar Towers in 1996, two U.S. embassies in East Africa in 1998, and the U.S.S. Cole in 2000. How could these attacks happen? How could Al Qaeda wage these assaults against the strongest, best-defended nation in the world? Intelligence Failure is the definitive account of Bill Clinton's greatest failure as president. Using exclusive research and previously unreported findings from congressional investigations and other sources, David Bossie details how Clinton's poor leadership and denigration of both the U.S. military and intelligence services exposed America to terrorist assault. "September 11, 2001, may have happened under Bush's watch," Bossie declares, "but it will always remain Clinton's legacy."… (mehr)

This is a well written book that chronicles the policies and practices of the Clinton administration as they methodically downsized the military of the United States as well as their demoralizing and basically ignoring the intelligence community. A series of events that though the executive branch was aware of chose to ignore and focus on economic globalization at the expense of national security.

I was amazed to find out that President Clinton did not have face-to-face briefings daily with the CIA and ignored and set back any reports that had intelligence pertaining to terrorism. And how present now prominent terror organizations came into being because of these policies. The Sudan government was a great friend to the USA when Clinton took office and they offered to extradite Osama bin Laden to the USA but the President refused this offer.

The policies followed and the tone set by the White House during this time under minded the national security in favor of political correctness and appear to have a focus on pleasing China. The book also shows how before the Patriot Act existed the FBI and CIA did not share important information that could have stopped various attacks. Though the President could have facilitated this by showing an interest in national security. ( )

This book is dedicated to my beautiful and loving wife Susan, whose encouragement during this difficult project carried me to the finish line, and to my darling children, Isabella and Griffin, whose wonderful smiles and laughter make life worth living.

In memory of my friend Barbara Olsen, who was taken from us on 9/11. If Barbara were alive today I know she would have penned this book.
