This installment took a couple of unexpected turns and I'm curious to see how the story plays out in the next book. ( ) Series Info/Source: This is the third book in the Forty Proof series. I listened to this on an audiobook that I got from Audible. Audiobook Quality (4/5): I really enjoy the narration on these audiobooks. The narrator sounds exactly like I imagine Brenna would sound and other characters' voices are very well done too! Story (4/5): Brenna is trying to get her new group going but jobs have been a bit thin; then she gets a job guarding a document for a goblin. Unfortunately, this job is not as simple as it first seems and Brenna and her crew find themselves in a boatload of trouble. The story moves fast and is a lot of fun to read. I love all the unique types of paranormal and supernatural creatures we run into. I love that each book has a contained mystery but there is a broader story that we also follow from book to book. Characters (4/5): Brenna is starting to form a family/support group of her own full of the displaced misfit characters and creatures she meets. I love the quirkiness of the characters and how loyal they are to each other. I also really love that Brenna herself is growing and changing; she is losing some of her bitterness and learning to trust again. The characterization is really well done overall; this remains a very character driven story. Setting (4/5): The whole story continues to take place in Savannah, Georgia. It’s a fine setting but not the main point of the story. I do like that we get to explore the creepy nextdoor house in this book. Writing Style (4/5): I continue to really enjoy this series. It is a fast-paced story with a lot of action, interesting characters, fun magic, and an intriguing mystery. It’s incredibly easy to read and a lot of fun. I do feel like both the man-bashing and the constant complaining about age were toned down a bit in this book which is a good thing. There are enough age jokes to be funny and relatable. but not so many that they overwhelm the story. My Summary (4/5): Overall I am really enjoying this urban fantasy series. It is a fun read with a fast-paced mystery and intriguing characters and magic. It is aimed at middle aged women, but I think all adult ages and sexes can find something here to enjoy. It really is a well done urban fantasy series and I plan to continue reading it. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
