The story of Liesl and Erick continues in this 3rd book of The Star and the Shamrock series. The war if over, Liesl is in college in Dublin and on the debate team when she wins a chance to go to a larger competition in Berlin. She has to face her fears from the war days by going back, but she meets her old friend Kurt, which changes the relationship with Jamie, also a college student in Dublin. The characters of Ariella, Elizabeth, and Daniel also appear in this book. The story continues to draw me in, even if sometimes situations might seem too perfect: plenty of money, good jobs when needed, loyal friends, always being at the right place at the right time. The last quarter of the book had me rushing to get it finished. Again, the Irish narrator does an excellent job with differentiating the different voices and accents. Yet another great radio from JG I truly love Jean's writing. Her character's grow with every page. The stories always come together in the end and shine light over the entire book. It is extremely important to me personally that the editing is properly done, and no major discrepancies throughout the book and JG delivers every single time. I'm so glad I decided to read her first book just after it hit Kindle and was able to see her writing and career grow. Your books are truly inspiring. Thank you. While you can start with this book 3 in the series, I recommend you start at book 1 as you will enjoy each one. The author makes her characters come alive and the storyline is easy to follow and interesting. If you enjoy history and novels set in other countries, this is a great read. My first Jean Grainger book was “ The Tour” and I’ve now read every one she has written. I highly recommend both this book and the author’s other works. HTML: Dublin 1950 Liesl Bannon has never felt like she was truly at home anywhere, not since her mother placed her and her brother Erich on the last Kindertransport out of Berlin in 1939. She'd been so much more fortunate than most Jews, saved from the horrors of the Nazi regime. Being adopted by Elizabeth and Daniel Lieber meant she and Erich spent the war in Northern Ireland, safe and loved, but Liesl always knew something was missing. When an opportunity to return to Berlin to represent her university presents itself, she is so torn. Should she go back to the city that rejected her and her family, would it be too harrowing, or would it feel like home? In Berlin, a chance encounter with an old family friend sparks emotions for Liesl that she'd suppressed since she was a child. She finds herself desperately wanting to go back to those carefree days before Hitler, when life made sense, but why was her family so set against her return? Was it because they were worried about her as they claimed, or was there a darker, more sinister reason? The Hard Way Home is the third book in the bestselling Star and the Shamrock series. .Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
