For me this one suffered a bit from the repetitious feel of Arthur's struggle. But it picks up in the last few chapters and ends sweetly. CW for antiquated abusive language in one short scene, and reference to earlier abuses. ( ) Gorgeous story. We first met Arthur in Dances Long Forgotten as the abused valet of Hugo's hated school 'friend'. Unfortunately his situation hasn't improved. This is a gentle love story. There's a lovely dom/sub dynamic to the relationship between Joseph and Arthur. Joseph is open and easy with his affection despite having lost so many people from his life. Arthur is more difficult to like. He's prickly, easily on the defensive, and his default setting is to run when under attack. He's also ashamed of his submissive nature. It was rewarding to see him battle his fear towards his growing feelings for Joseph. Occasionally I'd have liked names rather than he/him as this often became confusing. But that is my only criticism. I needed tissues for my tears as things fell apart and overjoyed when Lord Hugo intervened. I'd love the Major's story next. Gorgeous story.
