Poetic, odd, twisted, reminiscent of Camus, Kafka, all those guys, but more genuine. To me it was refreshing in its originality, but also depressing, and I can access lots of depressing people if I need to. Someone who is bothered and depressed might find comfort in know he/she is not alone, but I am quite selfishly happy, and run the other way. An A for art. ( )
This New Zealand author and poet metaphorically explores the American way of death; she exhumes those rock crystal realities which modern man, in his estrangement from others and himself, has been in the habit of burying. In a society where the elderly are packed away for neat extinction, a kind of Instant Trash Disposal, and TV provides a cornucopia of deaths — the limited supply of human grief and understanding is easily exhausted. Ms. Frame writes elliptically, with caustic impulses which densely course over the same symbolic circuits. It's disturbing and claustrophobic. Ist enthalten inAuszeichnungen
Daughter Buffalo is Janet Frame's only book set in the United States--in New York, where she once resided. The theme of human attitudes toward death is depicted through the eyes of the American narrator, Dr. Talbot Edelman. Ms. Frame suggests that rather than face the fact of death, we try to hide from it, to sweep it under the rug. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
