I wasn't really impressed with this book, however it was a collection of poems. Some poems I liked, others I did not. I did like Edward Lear's poem on the first page, which I thought was funny because he also wrote another book that I reviewed this week and I enjoyed the book. I saw a lot of end rhyme in this collection, although each poem was different. I also liked the very last poem in the book by the anonymous author. ( ) Summary: The book is a short book that has 18 poems that vary in size and they are about food. One is about a father who is unsuccessful and making pancakes and one another is about a young girl who has to eat rice pudding again. Personal Reaction: I liked the food theme because everyone has different experiences with food, such as what they like and what they hate. So this is a funny way for people especially young children to relate to the rhymes and have a good time with it. Classroom Ideas: If I read this in my class I would ask children what they liked and what they didn't like before I read this book. Also to see if they had any experiences like they did in the book. Summary: Hot Potato Mealtime Rhymes, is a book filled with several short poems, each incorporating food. Each poem within the book was written by a different poet. My favorite poem is titled, Mommy Slept Late and Daddy Fixed Breakfast. The poem talks about a dad who tries to fix waffles for breakfast and burns the waffles to a crisp. The little boy who the dad is fixing breakfast for complains that the waffles were so burnt they couldn't even be cut with a fork. At the end of the poem the little boy claims he would rather eat his plate. Personal Reflection: Hot Potato Mealtime Rhymes incorporated many different unique mealtime poems. Some of the poems were written in odd shapes making the poems fun to read. I think this book would make a great book to use to teach poetry from. Classroom Extension Ideas: For the classroom, this book would be great to incorporate into the lesson plan on poetry. If I was teaching poetry for the week, each day I would read a poem from this book as an example for the students. The book provides a fun way to get students involved into poetry. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
