( ) 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. I really liked River's storyline in this one, but wasn't as attached to the other plotlines. I was entertained though. This didn't end on a cliffhanger, but it didn't quite feel as resolved as I expected either. I really wish there was more growth or evolution in this series. Almost all the characters are not that different from when we first met them, or even if there is some significant event, they still act about the same when it comes down to it. And their relationships with each other are still about what they were as well. And Lamb is making all the same jokes. It's almost like each book is an episode of a sitcom. They reference past events, but if you didn't mind some spoilers you could pretty much just read them in any order. I would like the whole series much more if it took us on more of a journey, rather than just a series of adventures. Slough House is my favourite series. Herron can weave a plot full of the complexities of espionage, and with terrific characters, yet keeps it light with humour and literary flair This is one of my favourites of the series and with just one more to read I'm looking forward to going back to the beginning again. I can highly recommend this author and the series. I had to re-read this having read it first, and only subsequently worked my way though the first six Slough House novels. Now I can go on to number 8! Many books don't warrant a re-read, and whilst I remembered much of the book as I went through it again it remained funny and compelling with brilliant characters, an enticing plot and just pitch-perfect prose. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

(BBC), offers an unsparing look at the corrupt web of media, global finance, spycraft, and politics that power our modern world. ??This is a darker, scarier Herron. The gags are still there but the satire's more biting. The privatization of a secret service op and the manipulation of news is relevant and horribly credible.???Ann Cleeves, author of the Vera Stanhope series At Slough House??MI5??s London depository for demoted spies??Brexit has taken a toll. The ??slow horses? have been pushed further into the cold, Slough House has been erased from official records, and its members are dying in unusual circumstances, at an unusual clip. No wonder Jackson Lamb's crew is feeling paranoid. But are they actually targets? With a new populist movement taking hold of London's streets and the old order ensuring that everything's for sale to the highest bidder, the world's a dangerous place for those deemed surplus. Jackson Lamb and the slow horses are in a fight for their lives as they navigate dizzying l Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
