Ruth Consul gave this book to my mother in 1969. I inherited it when my mother died in 2009. My mother's favorite recipe was Olla Podrida pg. 540, and mine is Zuppa Inglese, or English Trifle on page 710. ( )

This is an interesting collection of traditional recipes from around the world, many of which are quite tasty.

With lots of great illustrations (and not just of food!), this book looks at the cuisine of the world's major cultures throughout history. You can have csereszhyeleves (Hungarian cream of celery soup), sursteg (Danish sour roast), ratzelach (Polish potato pancakes), and wash it down with glogg (from Scandinavia, made with red wine and aquavit). A great book.
