Champions is the story of Burnley's Championship title win of season 2015/16. In the world of the big city football clubs, Burnley remains the club from the small town that continues to defy the odds through its good management and careful budgeting. This is the third promotion to the Premier League in just seven years. It was a season that began tentatively following relegation from the Premier League the season before. Three key players had been sold. The first month was nothing special. Then two key purchases were made; Andre Gray was brought in from Brentford for a record fee and Joey Barton, to the surprise of most in Burnley. Gray's goals and Barton's leadership and player-of-the-year performances became the foundation of the promotion that followed. As ever, in the background, Sean Dyche's man-management and motivational powers provided the bedrock of the success that came in the final week of the season. This by then had become a neck-and-neck three-horse race that went right to the wire. This is a companion volume to Who Says Football Doesn't Do Fairytales? and is told in the same fashion, as author Dave Thomas sometimes turns his focus away from events on the pitch, delves into the rich history of Burnley FC and casts an eye on the wider world which provided the backdrop for the Clarets' Championship-winning campaign.
