Speak English for Us, Marisol! is about a little girl who translates for her family. Marisol is the one person in her family who speaks English fluently. Her family moved to the United States from Mexico and rely on her to speak to the outside world. Marisol does not become frustrated each time someone asks her to speak English. She is happy to help her family and friends. This book could be used for models of writing because it shows the English words that Marisol uses to translate. I liked reading this book because it is very realistic. Many children in the U.S are the translator for their immigrant parents ( )

"Speak English for Us, Marisol" was generally a good book and interesting. Although, I wonder if the favors she is doing for her family and friends is something a child should be doing. Telling a delivery boy the price is to high and he won't pay, to take a hike; filling out the college application, talking another salesperson about a couch, handling bills....is that what we want out of our children? It was awesome that she could help, but I think they need to keep her a kid as much as possible. ( )

Marisol is a little girl who is bilingual that helps translate for multiple people in her life. She helps negotiate prices on a chicken, helps her aunt understand phone calls and helps her mother with shopping. All she really wants to do is go home to her cat, who's expecting kittens.

Speak English for Us, Marisol is about a young girl in a Hispanic community who speaks English. Her friends and family are constantly asking her to help them out by using her English to be a translator, and even though she is trying to get home to see her cat she always helps out. At the end of the book, her mother tells her that she is taking an English class, and tells her in English that she is the best daughter a mother could have.
