What I love about Lauren Weisberger is that her characters aren't straight-cut and likable. They often do some kind of cringey things! They often say things offhandedly that make you think "Ooh, I don't know if I want to be friends with her." But they're still immensely relatable. The mistakes they make are mistakes we could make in a slightly different unvierse. They make sense.

This novel was no exception. Lots of delightful escapism and glimpses into the world of the ridiculously wealthy--but perhaps not too ridiculously, in this case. I had an absolute blast reading this. ( )

Peyton Marcus is a successful morning tv show host with a happy marriage, a daughter and enough money to provide for any wants or needs they may have. But she jeopardizes all of that when she decides that perhaps a small donation to the right people may help her give her daughter an advantage getting into the ivy league school of her choice. In her mind she hasn't done anything wrong. However how will the rest of her friends and family react when they find out? This book takes a peek behind closed doors of a family caught in the middle of a college admissions scandal. Peyton is forced to look inside herself and come to terms with her short comings and in the end discover that the most important things in life can't be bought with money and must come from the heart. A good topic for a book and fantastically read by Therese Plummer though she brings in more of an American twang than I've heard her use before.

It's about the college bribe scandal with a TV journalist/compere as the mother who sees that this step is just par for the course. Unfortunately for her husband, she uses his cheque book to write the cheque, because it was the one handy on the desk. Yet he was dead against doing such a thing and she had promised him she wouldn't.

There is also the point of view of the daughter, who feels betrayed by her parent - her mother sees the daughter Max's reaction as over-the-top and divorced from the real world.

I stuck this out till the end - it was a good topic with a good cast of characters drawn into the drama. The HEA was a bit of a surprise at the end. I was happy enough to leave the novel knowing the sympathetic characters had had their transformation and earned a break. ( )

I think the reservation is under Markus, Skye told the satuesque Nordic-looking blond who grudgingly acknowledged her at the door of Le Bilboquet.
